Hi! My name is Avery Coates. I am a photojournalist and content creator focused on telling impactful stories in the hockey and basketball industries with a degree in Journalism and Media Communications from Colorado State University. While attending CSU I had the opportunity to work as a freelance photographer for the Rocky Mountain Collegian, the Editor-in-Chief of College Avenue Magazine, and a Digital and Social Media Intern for the Colorado Eagles.
I love the community that sports create. The excitement of a game-winning goal, the energy of a packed arena, and the stories that unfold on and off the ice or court fuel my passion for sports storytelling.
My experience includes digital and social media for the Colorado Eagles, the Colorado Avalanche's American Hockey League affiliate, photographing an array of CSU's D1 athletics, covering the Mountain West Men's Basketball Tournament, live interviewing players, and so much more. I've developed a strong background in social media strategy, photojournalism, and fan engagement.
I thrive in fast paced environments and feel incredibly fulfilled when I have to think on my feet and lean on my creativity. Whether it's producing viral social media moments, creating stories through player interviews, or developing innovative digital strategies, I love finding new ways to bring fans closer to the teams and athletes they admire.
I’m looking to make an impact in the sports industry by working with teams, leagues, or media outlets to elevate their digital presence. My goal is to tell stories that not only inform and entertain but also strengthen the connection between fans and the game they love.
